Shogakukan Korean-Japanese Dictionary

The Shogakukan Korean-Japanese Dictionary is a revised edition of the popular Korean (“Chosen”) Dictionary, updated for the first time in 25 years and based on the latest orthography.

With 110,000 entries and 65,000 usage examples, the dictionary contains not only the vocabulary and usage examples necessary for language learning and business use, but also vocabulary used among Korean people in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and China. New words and meanings in fields such as politics, economics, culture, and IT have been actively adopted, and accurate translations for onomatopoeia and mimetic words frequently appearing in mass media such as newspapers are also provided. Phonetic symbols are attached to all head words except for variant forms, and katakana pronunciations are also given for the 1,650 most important words. In addition, conjugation numbers are attached to all words that conjugate, making it possible to confirm all the conjugational forms by referring to the “Conjugation Table” at the end of the book. This exhaustive dictionary is therefore chock-full of information necessary for learning Korean.

In the Japan Knowledge edition not only head words but also subheadings (derivatives, etc.), idioms, and proverbs in the main text are searchable by head word search. In addition, the “Explanation of Pronunciation,” “Conjugation Table,” and “Irregular Verbs and Adjectives and those with -ㄹ and -하 Stems” in the appendix of the paper version of the dictionary can be easily referred to by clicking the link in the main text. Moreover, audio clips of approximately 6,000 pronunciations are included, making it possible to check the correct pronunciation of head words with one click.
